I used to have a lot of houseplants and obsessed with having the best pots for my plants. But I could not find any planters that are good enough, the stuff that were sold in shops and online are the same, either they are not in the right size, the right shape, the right color or the right price. So I decided to make my own pots  – and I signed up for a hand-building pottery class. I was hooked and I’ve been practicing ceramics more and more, I went from doing it in a tiny corner in my house, to having my own little studio. How I started doing pottery is quite random, and I am sure many other people try out pottery for similar reasons, but just like when I practice other things on a regular basis, the more I work on my ceramics, the more I discover about myself.

The word “wedding” always brings me mixed feelings. I founded a successful wedding planning business in Hanoi almost ten years ago – right out of college. It was one of the very first few professional wedding businesses in Vietnam that were early founded and sustained the chaotic competition – despite a two-year pause right when the business just took off. I left the business at almost the same time I knew that I am going to have my own wedding – which was just a few months ago. And now I have not only one but a whole team of wedding planners helping me out with the wedding.

I left off my previous post with my first studio’s move in date. Things have been moving quickly, and that date was June 1st. Yes, I got the key on June 1st and for the past week I’ve been getting the basics for my own space. It is a modest, tiny space in an old warehouse, but I feel excited about it. Since I started pottery – which was not long ago, I’ve been treating it only as a hobby, and I find myself more and more invested in it. I often work on hand built items at home, on a small counter in my kitchen. But because the house gets messy quickly, I never feel 100% comfortable doing pottery at home.
